Eric(a): "What the hell is that thing!?"

Alice: "It's hideous and it moves so unnaturally."

Isabelle: "That's a... Maybe, I mean... Let me check. I have no idea what that thing is!"

Veronica: "No idea at all?"

Isabelle: "Absolutely none. There isn't even anything about it in the camp's records."

Veronica: "Well regardless of what it is it seems hostile. Let's just dissect it after we kill it."

Isabelle: "Be careful! I have no idea what it is capable of!"

The Mistwalker is a recurring miniboss found within the Misty Woods. Encountering the Mistwalker requires a bit of exploring; it can be found behind a randomly selected tree somewhere in the forested section of the dungeon. Simply explore behind each tree, and eventually a random encounter will occur.

Mistwalker's combat behavior is a bit intimidating, but thankfully less dangerous than it initially seems. It starts off the battle by casting Reap, a move which inflicts MC Instant Death.pngInstant Death on a single party member. It will cast Reap again every ten turns, spending the rest of the fight using an array of common elemental damage and status effect spells in between. So long as you are able to revive the fallen and heal up the party effectively, you should have no difficulty defeating it long before that happens. For this you should make sure to stock up on healing items and Fairy's Dust in case Reap or one of the more debilitating status effect spells prevents Natalie (and possibly Eric(a) if applicable) from healing and reviving.

Be aware that Mistwalker has a peculiar set of immunities. Don't bother trying to hit it with status effects, as it ignores almost all of them entirely. Its elemental defenses are also impressive: it is entirely immune to MC Cute.pngCute, MC Mental.pngMental, and MC Absorb.pngAbsorb damage, rendering Eric(a)'s biggest nukes and Alice's cheapest attack spell useless, as well as preventing Veronica's self recovery options. Additionally, it will have a random immunity to either MC Fire.pngFire, MC Ice.pngIce, or MC Thunder.pngThunder damage as well, potentially rendering Natalie unable to harm it with any of her base spells. Giving each magical attacker a Core which offers elemental magic they don't naturally have will help guarantee they won't be rendered harmless. Alternatively, discover which girl is least able to contribute damage and have them play support, refreshing MP with White Crystals or healing status effects with Seals of Focus. The battle may take a while, especially if Mistwalker stacks multiple STAT Down effects on your team, but it can be beaten. Just make sure to defeat it before it runs out of MP, as it will flee from combat once that happens.

Defeating Mistwalker is entirely optional and has no effect on the story, but each victory offers a Subconceptual Vestige.

Trivia

  • The Mistwalker does not possess a shadow, nor does it produce light; only ghosts and illusions share this trait. This is a deliberate artistic choice to denote its unnaturalness even more.
