Thunder is an element a damaging move may use. All thunder moves, barring Charged Scales, have a chance to stun their targets. Isabelle and her Ganguro double primarily use this (and are resistant to it), while Veronica is weak against it.
Thunder only has a couple of enemies resistant to it, and all enemies in the Mermaid Caves, including bosses, are weak to it. Even though Eric(a) can only learn one thunder move, it can be learned fairly early in the game and its stunning chance gives it a versatility that other moves may lack.
