Natalie: "Errr, Veronica... you sound like a bad guy right now."

Veronica: "Hey, why are you ganging up on me? Do you have any idea how lucky you are for having me in this little party?"

Alice: "Personally I would prefer to have one of my dolls with us, even if it was a non-magical, non-animated one."

Natalie: "Sorry Veronica, we aren't trying to bully you. It's just..."

Eric(a): "Do you mind leaving the bickering for later and just focus on the huge shadow monster in front us right now?"

Natalie: "Oh right, the magico. Let's punish it!"

The Strange Shadow is the boss of the Research Base. It has two forms: Freezing Shadow and Burning Shadow, dealing ice and fire damage respectively. Its color will shift between a deep blue and a dark orange to indicate its form at any given time. While both forms are capable of dealing damage to the whole party or focusing it on a single character, it tends to deal heavier damage in burning form while inflicting additional stat debuffs when freezing. The moves Core Ignition and Freezing Shadows are what triggers the transformation between its forms. Both moves are slow and will normally happen at the end of a turn.

Using the opposite element to the Strange Shadow's current form can deal a lot of damage given its weaknesses. As the moves that trigger its transformation normally go at the end of the turn there should not be too much risk of hitting it with the wrong element as long as you are paying attention. While Natalie is a handy source of Fire damage, Ice may be harder to come by as Veronica's physical attacks are often much stronger than her magical attacks.

Veronica's buffed physical attacks and Alice's Doll Girl's Anger can do plenty of damage without necessitating paying attention to its element. Eric(a) should spam Lovely Lightning to take advantage of the boss' total lack of resistance to stunning effects. Natalie can alternate between healing and using her fire. If someone is given the Illusion Core, they can use Terrifying Visions to increase the chance of keeping the boss stun-locked. So long as you keep up on your healing and avoid dealing the wrong damage types to it, the Strange Shadow should pose little actual threat.

Losing the Battle

If you are defeated by the Strange Shadow, the team will be emergency-teleported back to camp. Eric(a) will then suffer the Bunnygirl Slut Game Over at the hands of Marianne.
