Baleful Fires is a spell that deals very high fire damage and inflicts DEF and MDF Down for three turns to a single enemy target.
While already powerful on its own, Baleful Fires also renders the target more vulnerable to follow up attacks. Using it against powerful enemies and bosses is a viable strategy, and can quickly lead to the foe being overcome with careful reapplication over the battle. It is also notable that the high damage of the spell comes from its own base damage, it otherwise scales the same as most other spells. This means that Baleful Fires can be threatening even without high MAT.
