STAT Down is an array of status effects which hinder their target, decreasing one of their base stats. A single stage of a standard STAT Down effect is worth a 25% increase while a double is 50% (the same, but positive, values are true for STAT Up effects). All STAT Down varieties last until a set number of turns has passed or until the target is hit by another STAT Down or STAT Up effect which affects the same stat. Some skills will affect stats using unique states outside of the standard STAT Down and STAT Up effects and are not bound to the same 25% increments and will not necessarily overwrite existing buffs/debuffs in the same way.
The exact penalty they provide depends on the stat affected:
- MHP Down decreases the target's maximum health.
- MMP Down decreases the target's maximum mana.
- ATK Down decreases the target's damage with Attack and skills that scale with ATK.
- DEF Down increases the target's damage received from physical attacks.
- MAT Down decreases the target's damage with skills that scale with MAT.
- MDF Down increases the target's damage received from non-physical attacks.
- AGI Down causes the target to act later in a turn.
- LUK Down slightly decreases the target's chance to inflict status effects.
- Evasion Down decreases the target's chance to dodge enemy attacks.
- Magic Nullification Down decreases the target's chance to shield against enemy magic attacks (although since NUL is 0% by default for nearly everything, it doesn't really happen much).
