The '''Strange Shadow''' is the boss of the [[MC: Research Base|Research Base]]. It has two forms: Freezing Shadow and Burning Shadow, dealing ice and fire damage respectively. Its color will shift between a deep blue and a dark orange to indicate its form at any given time. While both forms are capable of dealing damage to the whole party or focusing it on a single character, it tends to deal heavier damage in burning form while inflicting additional stat debuffs when freezing. The moves Core Ignition and Freezing Shadows are what triggers the transformation between its forms. Both moves are slow and will normally happen at the end of a turn.

Using the opposite element to the Strange Shadow's current form can deal a lot of damage given its weaknesses. As the moves that trigger its transformation normally go at the end of the turn there should not be too much risk of hitting it with the wrong element as long as you are paying attention. While [[MC: Natalie|Natalie]] is a handy source of {{MCFire}} damage, {{MCIce}} may be harder to come by as [[MC: Veronica|Veronica's]] physical attacks are often much stronger than her magical attacks.

Veronica's buffed physical attacks and [[MC: Alice|Alice's]] [[MC: Doll Girl's Anger|Doll Girl's Anger]] can do plenty of damage without necessitating paying attention to its element. [[MC: Eric(a)|Eric(a)]] should spam [[MC: Lovely Lightning|Lovely Lightning]] to take advantage of the boss' total lack of resistance to {{MCStunned|text=stunning}} effects. Natalie can alternate between healing and using her fire. If someone is given the [[MC: Illusion Core|Illusion Core]], they can use [[MC: Terrifying Visions|Terrifying Visions]] to increase the chance of keeping the boss stun-locked. So long as you keep up on your healing and avoid dealing the wrong damage types to it, the Strange Shadow should pose little actual threat.
