== Backstory ==

Prior to the beginning of the story, Dion has a fight with the chosen Hero resulting in the latter's death. As a consequence, the Adventurer's Guild has cut ties with him, resulting in him being unable to take new jobs to pay his debts. It is also stated by [[Nadia]] that the king intends to have Dion thrown in jail. During the altercation, Dion also suffered a seal placed by the Hero that restricts his abilities. As a result, he is unable to fight at full strength during the events of the game.

Dion has prior relationships with several party members and NPCs, including [[Luca]], [[Kari]], [[Ralius]] and [[Silvie]].

== Personality ==

Dion is a self-described jerk. Despite this, he goes to great lengths to protect his party members. He is a competent and experienced adventurer in spite of his abrasive tendencies. Dion also has a strong belief in protecting children, even being willing to risk his life to protect a Maledictor child.

Dion has a strong dislike for gods, to the point that he would rather remain cursed than to receive help from a god. By extension, he has a disdain for the Hero and the Demon King. He continues to express these opinions even with religious characters, causing a great deal of personal friction.

Dion is known to drink on occasion, in particular to drown his sorrows.

After finding himself down on his luck, Dion is "volunteered" to join an expedition by the Silverthorn Trading Company as they travel through the ruins the former Demon Kingdom. Throughout the game, Dion has to manage himself and his party while suffering the effects of a curse that threatens to transform him.

== Gameplay ==

'''The Silverthorn Expedition''' is a turn-based RPG in which the player controls Dion and his party as they resolve the various obstacles faced by the caravan. The game features a fairly linear main story with several choices, which can affect the player's relationships, abilities, and the transformations they undergo. Throughout the game, the player will gain various gifts which can increase affection points of party members, along with granting other effects or items.

Unlike many games in the genre, The Silverthorn Expedition does not have a levelling system. Dion and his party members will generally gain stats and abilities as the plot advances. Characters can also gain gear from in-game events to upgrade their stats and provide other effects. The game does not have random encounters. Enemies are represented by overworld sprites, typically appearing as blue flames. The player can choose to engage or avoid these as they see fit.
